Election result? Panday does not know, and does not care

Trinidad Express / FORMER prime minister Basdeo Panday joined the many citizens who chose not to vote in the local government election on Monday describing the whole process as “useless.”

He told the Express: “It is a useless exercise having regard to the way the constitution is framed. As long as the local government has to depend upon the central government for funding, nothing will change.”

If he had voted, Panday said: “It would be exercising futility.”

Asked if he had an idea of who might win the local government election, the former political leader of the United National Congress (UNC) replied: “I don’t know and I really couldn’t care.”

He said regardless of who won, nothing will be done to improve the lives of citizens.
