‘Fake” Social Development Ministry worker in court for fraud

Trinidad Express / A 41-year-old woman who allegedly claimed to be a Social Development Ministry employee, appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with four counts of larceny amounting to $33,450.

Lisa Michelle Guyadeen, of no fixed place of abode, was charged with larceny of $12,000, $18,000, $3,000 and $450, after being arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad, during an anti-crime exercise.

The accused is alleged to have collected the monies from various persons, for assistance with acquiring grants from the Ministry of Social Development.

The victims later learned that Guyadeen was not an employee of the Ministry and neither was she authorised to collect money on its behalf.

The offences allegedly happened between the March and July.

Guyadeen appeared before Senior Magistrate Cherril-Ann Antoine and was remanded into custody.

The matter was adjourned to Monday and transferred to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.

Guyadeen was charged by PC Ronald Kernahan and PC Navin Latchman of the Fraud Squad.
