Forging On In The Midst of… The Shenelle Scot Story*

Trinidad Express / I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. —Philippians 4:13 As a mother, you face many challenges. More like hurdles you don’t think you have the strength to cross as the finish line seems so far away. And that’s when Philippians 4:13 becomes relevant. The Shenelle Scott story, in particular, is testimony to this. As we meet to chat a few days before this past Mother’s Day, she recalls her favourite Bible verse and smiles knowingly at others who say it. But unlike the others, there is something very unique about this woman’s journey through motherhood. To the onlooker, her past obstacles were unsurmountable and her pain crippling. Many friends and family who know the chapters of her life are in awe of her courage and strength. Like her most recent tragedy: her husband was murdered and her five-year-old son shot. It made all the newspaper headlines. And yet she overcame, and her book of life is far from over. Scott exudes optimism amid past, present and future adversity, and as we get straight into her compelling back story, I buckle up for an escapade into the life of a mother who conceived her first child at age 21 among much controversy and paparazzi speculation.
