Hard work will pay off when economy rebounds*

Trinidad Express / EL SALVADOR-based Unicomer Group, the company which owns Courts, the Ashley Furniture HomeStore and several other retail chains, says despite Trinidad and Tobago’s current economic outlook, it will continue to make solid investments here. “The Unicomer Group sees tremendous opportunity in T&T,” the company’s chairman and chief executive officer Mario Siman said last week. “We believe that all the work we are doing now will strengthen our position in the market place as a preferred retailer when the economy rebounds,” he said, adding that he was confident that very soon the stormy clouds will recede to reveal a bright future once again for T&T. Siman was addressing a luncheon hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce at the Hilton Trinidad last Wednesday. He said the company’s investment here was not limited to the expansion of its retail chains, as recently one of its affiliate companies, Second Plaza, partnered with local investors to acquire and redevelop the Valpark Shopping Plaza. When completed, he said, the new plaza will provide both tenants and shoppers with a safe, spacious and ultra-modern shopping environment.
