He wanted the kitchen*

Trinidad Express / Award-winning Chef Raymond Joseph will be remembered above all for his humility. So says his biggest supporter, his mother Annette Joseph. Annette said the former Marriott Hotel executive chef was a proud product of Laventille and lived his life as a testament to the good that can come from the embattled community. “He born right in Snake Valley, Laventille; he grew up here and died right here. I was very, very proud to know he is a product of Laventille. I would like people to know Laventille have real good people,” an emotional Annette told the Express hours after burying her son on Friday morning. Joseph lost a year-long battle with lymphoma and passed away peacefully in the presence of his immediate family at their Laventille home last weekend. The former captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Culinary team was diagnosed with the disease in 2016 after a battery of tests on a worrying swollen gland under his feet. Annette recalled his upbeat mood throughout the ordeal right up to their final heart-breaking moments together. “Even in sickness he was concerned about me. He would tell everyone talk to mummy and keep mummy close,” she said between tears.
