High-riding Tivoli, UWI FC clash in RSPL

Jamaica Gleaner / High-riding Tivoli Gardens will look to beat UWI FC for the first time in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), when the teams meet today at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex at 3 p.m.

Both teams are locked on 18 points apiece and also share similar goal difference of plus five. However, UWI are in third position, having scored 14 times, while Tivoli have converted 11 goals so far. On Sunday, Tivoli and UWI FC both scored impressive wins. Tivoli whipped Boys’ Town 4-2, while UWI FC blanked Sandals South Coast 2-0.

Interestingly UWI, since making their debut in the nation’s top flight league two seasons ago, have never lost to Tivoli.

“UWI are definitely a good team. They have been getting some good results. Over the past two years, we believe that we are yet to beat them,” coach of Tivoli Gardens, Omar Edwards told The Gleaner yesterday.

“It is a new season, and we understand what it is we have to do to beat them. We need to come out and play our game,” he added.

Tivoli’s midfielder-turned-striker, Colorado Murray, is the team’s leading scorer on four goals coming in the last three games. He is expected to get good support from Andre Moulton, captain and central defender Romaine Brakenridge, midfielder Tevin Shaw and super-sub Junior McGregor.

UWI’s assistant coach, Andrew Peart, is hoping that his team can continue their unbeaten run against Tivoli in the league.

“Tivoli are yet to beat us in the two years we have been in the league, but we are not looking at that, we will just go there and execute the game plan,” Peart said.

UWI will rely on the competition’s leading goal scorer Ryan Miller who is on six goals, as well as captain Rochane Smith, Oshane Jenkins, Dawyne Smith, Girvon Brown and Fabian McCarthy to deliver for them.
