Innocent bystander killed in car crash


Trinidad Express / Thirty-year-old Rajendra Roopchand was standing on the pavement near his home at midnight when two cars collided in front of him.

Police said one of the vehicles spun out of control and slammed into Roopchand.

He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the Penal Health Centre.

The accident occurred this morning along the Rochard Douglas Road, Penal.

Police said the drivers of both cars suffered injuries and were both treated at the San Fernando General Hospital. One driver, police said, suffered head injuries and remains warded at hospital.

Investigators said one of the drivers failed a Breathalyser test at the scene.

The Express was told that Roochand was self-employed and got married earlier this year.

His family has called for justice.
