Jamrockerz Win 4-team Classic


RJR News / Jamaica’s Jamrockerz turned in a scintillating performance to capture the inaugural Sports Development Foundation/Mega Mart Basketball Classic with a 15 point win over the Guyana Jaguars in Monday’s final at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

Billed as the Caribbean championship finale, the contest lived up to all expectations. The two had already met in the competition with the Jamaicans prevailing 83-77 on the opening day.

With the home support willing the Jamaican’s on, the hosts dominated the first-half, heading into the break at 35-24, having taken the first quarter 15-11.

The momentum remained with the Jamaicans after the break, scoring 23 points in the third quarter compared to Guyana’s 14.

Another 20 points in the fourth stanza sealed the remarkable victory for the hosts as they prevailed 82-67, with Lynford Brown hitting a game-high 22 points while Kemar McLeish had 16.

It was a good night for Jamaica, as the Jamrockers Under-21’s secured third spot following an exciting 63-60 win over the Libertyville Vipers from the United States.
