#LocalGovtElection: JLP 8, PNP 4 … preliminary results show Labourite takeover of local authorities

Jamaica Gleaner / The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has decimated the People’s National Party (PNP) in today’s Local Government election with preliminary results showing the Labourites leading in 8 of the 14 local government authorities.

The PNP, which had control of all 14 local authorities has managed to retain the Manchester, Westmoreland and Hanover divisions.

There is however, a tie in St Thomas and St Catherine.

The Portmore Municipality has not yet been declared, but the PNP is expected to retain it and also the position of mayor, which was being contested by the PNP’s Leon Thomas and the JLP’s Keith Blake.

St. Elizabeth JLP – 9 PNP – 6

Westmoreland JLP – 5 PNP – 9

KSAC JLP – 21 PNP – 19
