London 2017 | Bolt, McLeod among athletes not yet at JAAA camp

Jamaica Gleaner / BIRMINGHAM, England:

Several of Jamaica?s top stars including Usain Bolt and Omar McLeod, are yet to arrive in Birmingham for the team?s pre-World Championships camp, which is currently taking place at the University of Birmingham.

Like they did in the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has chosen the university as the pre-competition base for the athletes and coaching staff.

Team manager Ian Forbes confirmed to  The Gleaner  that Olympic 110m hurdles champion McLeod, along with fellow sprint hurdler Hansle Parchment, are among a few athletes whose arrival have been delayed due to visa and other logistical issues. However, the pair are expected in the country shortly.

With the Birmingham camp ending  on Tuesday , Forbes also noted that it is quite possible that Bolt, who is currently in Germany preparing for what will be his final competition, will be heading straight to the team hotel in London ahead of the championships.

It is also understood that 400m hurdler Ricardo Cunningham, who finished third at the National Senior Championships, is also delayed due to passport issues.

The camp will end  on Tuesday,  at which point the team will head south to London for the  August 4 ? 13  championships.
