Trinidad Express / OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar wants Government to give a commitment to citizens that when the Couva Children’s Hospital is opened, all services will be free.
She also called on Government to disclose how much it cost to employ the Committee chaired by Dr Winston Welch, which was set up to review health care delivery at the regional health authorities and rationalize the system of public sector doctors in private practice.
The Welch Committee said it could not find a rationale for building the Couva Children’s Hospital, but recommended that it be used in some way.
Persad-Bissessar , who led today’s protest march from the Preysal Recreation Ground along the highway to the Couva Children’s Hospital said the protest was also to challenge the Government’s decision to impose the property tax.
She said that despite the extension of the deadline for filing of documents, the Opposition would continue to oppose it.
