Mechanic charged with stealing and selling cars

Trinidad Express / A MECHANIC charged with stealing three cars within the City of San Fernando and selling them was denied bail last Friday.

Richardson Julien, 31, was charged with stealing Nissan cars valued between $13,000 and $20,000 from Irving Street, Keate Street and Harris Promenade in San Fernando and also for committing the same acts in Princes Town.

It was also alleged that he received money under false pretences. Julien allegedly sold the cars.

The offences allegedly occurred between April 10 and 20.

Julien was charged by officers Rampersad, Maraj, Charles, Balgobin, Ragoonanan and Andre of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department.

Police prosecutor Sgt Krishna Bedassie objected to bail being granted. He said Julien had seven previous convictions for motor vehicle larceny over the past ten years and one conviction for housebreaking and larceny.

He also said Julien had one pending matter for causing death by dangerous driving.

Bedassie said that while Julien was on bail he allegedly committed these offences.

Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine denied Julien bail. He was remanded into custody until June 8. The Princes Town matters were transferred to that court.

Defence attorney Ainsley Lucky said truck driver Mendoza, 36, of Palo Seco, had no previous matters before the court and was “very keen in getting the matter started”.
