NCC distributes Carnival awards

Trinidad Express / The top achievers in mas, pan and calypso were honoured and rewarded, on Sunday night, at the National Carnival Commission’s Carnival 2017 awards ceremony at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. Awards and monetary prizes were presented in 72 categories, at both junior and senior level, with a few exceptions, as the NCC made good its commitment to better manage and distribute Carnival funds and prizes. Private sector sponsored cash prizes were not paid on Sunday night. Minister: System under review Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly called this nation’s Carnival product “a complex and evolving commodity” that required further adjustments to ensure its proper management. Gadsby-Dolly said the system adopted for Carnival 2017 which saw the NCC manage the expenditure and prize money for both Pan Trinbago and the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) is currently under review. “The system of Carnival management is presently under review as we do want timeliness to be the norm,” Gadsby-Dolly said during a WhatsApp exchange with the Express on Monday afternoon.
