Police reject latest wage offer

Jamaica Gleaner / Rank and file cops have rejected the latest wage offer from the Government.

Representatives of the Jamaica Police Federation met yesterday with finance ministry officials to continue wage talks.

But it’s understood that the only variation to the government’s offer was for a four per cent increase in year one of the contract and two per cent in year two.

The Government had previously offered a three per cent increase for year one and another three per cent for year two.

The rejection of the latest offer came the same day on which police personnel islandwide called in sick.

The industrial action has reportedly stemmed from wage negotiations between police personnel and the government.

However, chairman of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson, says he is not aware of any protest by his members.

The sick out by the police reportedly affected court proceedings in several parishes.
