Santa comes to MovieTowne

News day / Approximately 1500 of the nation’s children were treated to a movie, snacks and toys courtesy MovieTowne.

Three hundred guardians also accompanied the children on their trip.

The cineplex’s marketing manager and Film Buyer, Lisa Sadler, said children from orphanages, children’s homes and underprivileged communities such as the St Mary’s Home, Lady Hochoy Home and from as far as Blanchisseuse and as near as Laventille attended yesterday’s treat. The children ranging in ages from two to 15, Sadler told Newsday, were transported to and from the event and saw movies such as Troll, Storks and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

The treat, now in its 14th year, was the initial brainchild Sadler said, of Derek Chin and other members. “It is something close to our hearts.” The cineplex also had support from Coca Cola, HADCO, SM Jaleel among others to host the treat.

Althea Baptiste, a guardian for children of the Laventille Sunday School, described it as being good. She added she enjoyed seeing the children’s reaction to the movie.

Miss Andrews (she wished not to have her full name identified) said 37 children from the St Mary’s Home attended.

“It was good to see the children enjoying the movie,” she said.

Andrews added the children were satisfied with the treats and gifts they received.
