Schoolboy to be buried today

News day / He will be buried at the Phoenix Park cemetery. Yesterday, Rolle’s grandmother and mother were at a funeral home finalising arrangements for the final rites.

Rolle, 14, a Form Four student of Marabella North Secondary School, was discovered hanging from a rope attached to a Samaan tree by his grandmother 67-yearold Marilyn Davis on Tuesday afternoon. He was holidaying at Davis’ home for the long Easter weekend and was last seen swinging from the rope by his cousins, aged 10 and 14.

At about 12.30 pm, when Davis went to tell Rolle that his mother Elizabeth had called and wanted him to get ready to come home, she discovered him hanging. The frantic woman alerted neighbours who cut Rolle down and rushed him to San Fernando General Hospital where he died later. An autopsy revealed cause of death to be inconclusive but police have ruled the death as an accident.

Newsday understands counselling is being provided for Rolle’s classmates while the police are offering support for his relatives through the Victim and Witness Support Unit.

Yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Surujdean Persad said he also asked officers from the Central Division to meet with immediate relatives and assist them in whatever way possible.
