Special Measures In Place To Facilitate Renewal Of PPV Licences

RJR News /

With less than two weeks to go before the deadline for the renewal of road licences, special measures have been put in place to facilitate the process for public passenger vehicles (PPVs). More than 30,000 road licences will expire on March 31 and the Transport Authority is reporting that more than 20,000 public passenger vehicles are yet to be examined.    Petra-Kene Williams, Acting General Manager of Human Resources and Administration at the Transport Authority, said the measures put in place to facilitate the renewal of PPV licences include opening facilities on two Sundays this month to have public passenger vehicles examined. “Yesterday, we had examinations depots in St. Catherine and Tower Isle, St. Mary open, and in the upcoming week, we will have our depots at the Montego Bay Transportation Centre, St. Catherine and the Manchester open,” she said.                            She is urging PPV operators to apply for road licences on time to avoid paying a late fee effective April 1 as well as face prosecution.
