The ghost of Hurricane Maria*

Trinidad Express / The recent devastation caused by Hurricane Maria has spawned a number of debates in the national arena, particularly with regard to statements made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley. When Maria ravaged Dominica we had no clue her ghost would take an unexpected turn to Trinidad and Tobago. The apparition manifested itself in the unsavoury language used by the PM when he stated that “Those now who have a lot to say about what I said about Dominica had misconducted themselves and so annoyed our Caricom purchasers of our goods that we were in danger of losing our Caricom market and all I will say to them is just shut your mouth and let Trinidad and Tobago strive.” In response to a barrage of criticisms on these remarks, the PM quickly attempted damage control but only added fuel to the fire with further unbecoming comments.
