Tivoli payment plan to be unveiled

Jamaica Gleaner / The Justice Ministry is to outline today the process the government will use to pay out millions of dollars in compensation to victims and their families of the 2010 police-military operation in West Kingston.

The details are to be disclosed during a press conference at 2 o’clock this afternoon.

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck and permanent secretary in the ministry Carol Palmer are to give an update on the status of implementation of the Tivoli recommendations and the Incursion Compensation Committee Report.

The Government is set to pay about $200 million in compensation.

Cash awards totalling $134 million have been made to the estates of men killed during the operation.

The aim of the operation was to serve an extradition warrant on Tivoli Gardens crimelord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

The committee also made recommendations to the Government for payments to be made to successful claimants for personal injury and property damage or loss.
