Tourism Minister projects visitor arrivals to reach 4.2 million this year

Jamaica Gleaner / The Tourism Ministry is projecting that visitor arrivals will reach 4.2 million this year, that’s five per cent more than last year.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says this will mean more opportunities for employment and for local businesses to sell more goods and services.

He also said more effort was being made to have local businesses benefit from the growing tourism sector.

Bartlett was speaking at the Fourth Tourism Linkages Speed Networking Event at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Montego Bay on Wednesday.

The Tourism Linkages Speed Networking event is organised to connect local suppliers of goods and services with the operators of hotels and attractions.

Some 170 suppliers and buyers of goods and services attended the event.

The tourism minister says the event is part of the thrust to have the tourism sector use more local products and services so that more of the earnings from tourism can be retained locally.
