UM leaps to No. 2 in AP poll for first time since 2003

MiamiHerald / The Miami Hurricanes have been saying they get no respect from the national media.

Well, they’re getting it now.

The Hurricanes, who overwhelmed Notre Dame on Saturday night with a 41-8 pounding at Hard Rock Stadium, leaped to No. 2 in both the Associated Press and Amway coaches polls on Sunday to reach their highest ranking since 2003, the last season in which they finished with 10 victories.

Miami (9-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) was No. 7 in the AP and No. 6 among the coaches going into Saturday’s game, but its dominant performance against former No. 3 Notre Dame (8-2), coupled with former No. 2 Georgia (9-1, No. 1 College Football Playoff) getting crushed by Auburn, put the Canes just one spot below perennial powerhouse Alabama (10-0), which scored in the last minute to defeat Mississippi State on Saturday.
