RJR News / Voting is now underway in Jamaica’s Local Government election.

Electors will cast ballots at 7,050 polling stations in more than 2,200 locations. The polling stations will close at 5 o’clock.

The Electoral Office of  Jamaica has disclosed however that rain, especially in the eastern end of  the island, is posing challenges for its workers.

“There’s nothing we can do about that until we see what unfolds, but at this point in time we have everything in place that we need, and it’s all systems go,” Fisher told RJR News .

The Electronic Voter Identification System will be used in St. Catherine Eastern, St. Andrew West Central, St. Andrew South Eastern, St. Andrew Eastern, Kingston Central, Kingston East and Port Royal as well as St. Andrew Western.

The elections in the Portmore Municipality will be conducted on the 2003 boundaries as directed by last week’s Supreme Court ruling.
