Jamaica could be without seasoned relay runner, the 100m finalist Yohan Blake for the final of the men’s 4x100m in Saturday’s afternoon session.
According to head Coach Maurice Wilson, Blake has not been able to train at full pace in the relay practices and that the medical team will assess him leading up to the final.
“Well I cannot speak definitive on it until I have had conversations with the medical staff,” Coach Wilson said.
Asked if Yohan Blake is still expected to join the quartet to the 4x100m final and whether the concern was over an injury, the coach replied. “I would want to think that based on a discussion that I heard a while ago, the possibility exist that we may have some niggles. I am not fully… I’ve not been given all the information (to date),” Wilson said, noting Blake is expected to join the team, once examined by the medical staff if there is a problem.
Press further to state whether Blake trained with the team in relay practice this morning the veteran coach posited.
“Well he (Yohan Blake) did some hand offs today at about half-pace and we’re expecting that if there is a problem he’s a professional athlete, he’s an experienced athlete; he will have that conversation with the medical staff, he will also be examined by the medical staff if there is a problem,” the head coach said.
The men’s 4x100m quartet of Tyquendo Tracey, 100m semi-finalist Julian Forte, debutant Michael Campbell and 11-time world championship gold medallist Usain Bolt clocked 37.92 seconds, the third fastest time to advance to the final in Saturday’s afternoon segment.
The United States team with Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman logged a world leading 37.70secs to win the first head, followed by Great Britain with 37.76secs.
