Four Deaths In Two Crashes Along Holland Bamboo Road

Four persons died in two separate vehicular crashes on the Holland Bamboo road in St. Elizabeth within about 12 hours, Friday night into Saturday morning.

In the first incident, two men died when their motor car collided with a bus on the famous stretch of road about 11.30 p.m., Friday.

They have been identified as 23 year old Jermaine Blair and 22 year old Andre Stephens, both of Dry Harbour in Lacovia.

Both were employed at the Total Gas Station in Santa Cruz.

The men were reportedly travelling in a white Toyota Corolla motor car from Lacovia towards Middle Quarters when Mr. Stephens, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle. It crashed into a bus travelling in the opposite direction

The men died at the scene. The occupants of the bus were not injured

The second crash, also involving a car and a bus, occurred about 10.20 Saturday morning

Two persons who were in the car died while five others are being treated in hospital

It’s reported that the motor car was travelling towards Lacovia, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a church bus travelling in the opposite direction. The car overturned

The driver died at the scene. He has been identified as Andrew Bingham from Catherine Hall, St James

The passenger from the car died in hospital. He has not been identified

Assistant Commissioner Calvin Allen, head of  Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, told RJR News that speeding was believed to have been the primary cause of both crashes. He’s once again appealing to motorists to exercise caution along that and other roads across the island
