J.C. Hutchinson, Minister without portfolio in the Agriculture Ministry wants general consumption tax (GCT) removed from certain agricultural inputs. He pointed to seeds, forks, hoes and refrigerated trucks, which he says are essential items for the modernisation of the sector. “When we look at a pack of hybrid cucumber, this pack alone cost $2,836.38. If somebody is going to plant an acre, it will cost them $5,672 for this. This one, which is tomato. This pack cost $7,986. To plant one acre, it is going to cost the farmer $31,946 with GCT,” he highlighted, concluding: “We have to take GCT off of these seeds that we have. Mr. Hutchinson was speaking in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
