Jamaican schools will not be allowed to participate at this year’s 126 th staging of the popular Penn Relays at Franklyn Field in Philadelphia, United States. The decision was taken by the Jamaican Government through the Ministry of Health, whose Minister Dr Christopher Tufton made the announcement at an emergency press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Ministry’s headquarters in New Kingston, where he had earlier announced the first confirmed case of the Covid 19 coronavirus in Jamaica.

The decision was taken to put a travel ban on Jamaican athletes going to this year’s staging due to the spread of the virus in the United States. The Penn Relays are scheduled for April 23-25.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister also revealed that a decision will be made about the staging of this year’s ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics’ Championships within the next 24 hours. This event is set for March 24-28 at the National Stadium.
In the meantime, the Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has announced the official launch for the event which had been slated for the National Stadium on Wednesday has been postponed. The popular event is slated for March 24-28 at the National Stadium in St Andrew. Minister Tufton n has also said a decision will also be taken on all other public gatherings.
