Os cães foram levados para o Laboratório de Interação Humano-Animal de Udell, onde participaram em três testes comportamentais.

Finalmente, apenas os cães deste grupo resolveram com sucesso a tarefa do puzzle.

Os cães com donos autoritários eram mais propensos a serem inseguros com o seu cuidador principal do que os cães do grupo autoritário. Estes cães também passaram mais tempo a procurar proximidade com o seu dono em comparação com a pessoa desconhecida no teste de sociabilidade.

Os cães com donos permissivos seguiram os sinais sociais da pessoa desconhecida, mas não os do seu dono. Os cães passaram um tempo comparável na proximidade do seu dono, independentemente de o dono ter estado ou não atento.
