Cuando el nuevo presidente de Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, se reúna con el presidente Joe Biden en la Casa Blanca el viernes, los dos esperan restablecer las relaciones después de una era definida por populistas de derecha y amenazas a la democracia en ambas naciones.

Sobre la reunión penderá la presencia continuada de Bolsonaro en Estados Unidos. Bolsonaro está buscando una visa de turista de seis meses para permanecer en los EE.UU., el bufete de abogados que representa Bolsonaro confirmó a CNN Brasil el 30 de enero. El Departamento de Estado de EE.UU. se ha negado a confirmar el estado de la visa de Bolsonaro debido a la confidencialidad.

Bolsonaro se encuentra en Florida desde el 30 de diciembre, abandonando Brasil días antes de la toma de posesión de su sucesor el 1 de enero.
